CA Fix History

This page contains short notes on changes between versions. Review the list to determine if any changes affect your use of the program or address issues you may have had. Consult the User or Reference manual for greater details. These notes are short and technical.

Version 6.1.8 (9/3/06)
1. Created an Internal version of Background build program (see Options- Build Settings- Background Building- Run Internal/External). When set to Internal, the background conversions will STOP when the Casting/Callback Window video recording button is pressed. The background conversion process will start again once the talent record is saved. The internal version is identical to the external version, however, by running it internally the CA program can stop it during video recording due to prevent possible Audio sync issues.

2. Added an Audio Buffer Setting (default is .05 seconds) within the Casting/Callback Window Video Tab. The value can range between .05 - .5 seconds.

3. Removed Frame Rate from Options and added a box in Casting/Callback Window Video Tab for user defined values (15-29.97)

4. Added Video Capture Dropped Frames information to the bottom of the Casting/Callback Window Data Tab.

5. Created a Video Archiving utility (Utility-Archive Videos) that deletes video AVI files if it finds associated Background (or Sorenson Squeezed) compressed files (QT,ASF, WAV, WMA, or MPG). The process then changes the talent video paths to match the located compressed files.

6. Created a special version of the View that is used to view non-AVI archived files. The program automatically selects the correct viewer based on the video file being viewed.

Version 6.1.7 (8/30/06)
1.Fixed bug in Portrait small email print that dropped the last four photos.
2.Added two-photo capability to email output.
3.Made email proofs default to lite footprint (with a High Quality option added).
4.Changed the Schedule Range box to un-checked in the Picture Log Dialog Window.
5.Fixed bug that created a video button in combo web builds when no talent video existed.

Version 6.1.6 (8/14/06)
Changed 'DVD VOP' to 'DVD Image' in the DVD Builder tool.

1. Created a new DVD Builder Form that creates DVD VOP, Mpg2 DVD compatible, or AVI DVD prep. output.

Version 6.1.2 (6/22/06)
1. Background Build
Added Mpg conversion and 2nd stage conversion (now will optionally do 2 conversions per file). This is in anticipation of future DVD VOC biulding.
Fixed bug in MOV converting.

2. CA Webtool Enhancements & Fixes
Added Mpg build capability (for compatibility with both PC & Mac's and improved conversion times).
Set Mpg defaults to 320x240 & Asf defaults to 720x480.
Fixed two picture build bug.

Suggested Build Output:

Version 6.0.19 (5/31/06)
1. Backgound Builder enhancements (v6):
Create mov (Quicktime) video files.

2. CA Enhancements
Added multi-page PDF to Email output (Options-Output Settings-Email Image-Include PDF menu).
Added an Image Adjustment parameter for Portrait Picture Captures in Casting Window (Options-Output Settings-Image Adjustment-Portrait Height menu).
Added a SunPass key to the Schedule Window that lets you quickly enter a string of talent numbers rather than selecting them from the list.
Enabled editing of the talent data in the Schedule Window

Enhanced the built-in CA Web Builder tool to create mov (Quicktime) video files and associated modifications to the user interface.

Version 5.3.47 (3/13/06)
1. Modified the Expiration message that appears when the time-limit serial number is less than 30 days from expiring. Note that serial numbers can now be issued with a 6mth or 1yr operational limit.
2. Options-Output Settings-Email Font Size command added so that the text under the photos on email output can be user defined.

Version 5.3.46 (5/31/05)
1. Schedule Window
- Added picture boxes to reflect the photo of the talent highlighted in the listboxes.

2. Photo Proof Window
- Fixed bug that incorrectly showed the status of the Union & Flag fields.

3 Modified Build Window to take into account the various places the avi files might be (due to Background Building or Sorenson Watch, etc).

4 Added an MOV option to the Background Build program.

5 Fixed bug in the FTP program that caused uploads to fail.

Version 5.3.43 (3/22/05)
1. WebTool Changes - Now called Build Tool (v5.0):
-added Mov build that creates the pages and hooks for externally converted/created Mov files (matching Sorensen Squeeze software formats).
-added a 'Background ASFs' checkbox that creates the pages and hooks for a previously background built set of ASF files (see 'Utility Background Builds' below).
-Created a new build for DVD's. This option creates a trailer video for each talent with 5 seconds of Talent information on the screen (id, name and optionally Role and Other) and the still picture from the project. Then the actual video is included in the build folder. Note that Casting video capture should include the Microsoft MPEG-4 V1, V2 or V3 compressor for the best actual DVD burning turnaround. During the build the DVD folder contents are monitored and limited to a user defined maximum length (default is 1hr of video) that is set by the 'Options-Build Settings-Max DVD Length' menu command.
-removed the Indeo and DivX 'Codec' checkboxes since non-Microsoft codecs are no longer included in the installs.
-changed the layout of the tool.
-updated the template web pages and added Quicktime versions.

2. Created a NEW program called 'Background Builds' that runs minimized to convert the saved project AVI videos in background and then optionally uploads them to an Internet folder. Note that only the created files (ASFs by default) are uploaded and the associated web pages still need to be created (via the Web Tool using the Background checkbox) and then uploaded. Note that the new created videos are built in a new sub-folder called 'BackgroundDone' and the source AVI is moved to a new folder called 'BackgroundMoved'. The CA play buttons will not find the associated video if they have been moved by this utility. At the end of the day you will need to move the source files back to the project video folder for the CA links to be valid. This can be can be done manually or with the 'Utilities-Retrieve Video' menu command. Note that the Web Tool needs the Backgound box checked during an ASF build in order to find the pre-compressed files or it will go ahead and compress them again.

The Background program also has an 'Auto-Upload Converted Files' checkbox. When checked the converted video files (now in an asf format) are automatically uploaded to the user's pre-defined web site. See the new CA FTP program for settings.

3. New 'Utilities-Background Build' command. When checked (icon shows in toolbar) CA fires the Background Builder program after each casting video is created. This independant utility program then does the conversion from AVI to ASF (the default) as an external process. The default video folder (Video Capture Drive+CADATA+Video+project name) is created if it doesn't already exist.

4. New 'Utilities-Retrieve Video' command that moves the CA video files back into the project's video folder if they were moved by either the Background Build to Sorenson Watch processes.

5. New 'Utilities-FTP Transfer' command that opens the new CA FTP program. The program runs externally but the project's video folder is passed when launched by CA. The program's settings are also used by the Background Builder program.

4. Viewer Tool Changes (v5.0):
-Added Full Screen feature.
-Added playback speed options (half, normal, & double).

5. Casting/Callback Capture Window Changes:
-Created a Pause/Record feature. When recording the button now turns into a Pause button. Pausing freezes the Capture steam as an indicator of paused state. Press the button again to continue recording or press the Stop to finalize the capture.
-Added code that sycronizes the video record buttons with the VCR toolbar buttons and video camera. When the camera is recording the VCR button and Casting are in a recording state. When the camera recording is stopped the VCR & Casting window 'Rec' buttons reflect the change (and the PC recording pauses. The PC will toggle between Record and Pause in sync with the camera. To save the captured video (and stop the PC recording) simply press the 'Stop/Save' button. Note that the recording Timelimit checkbox is ignored when in Sync mode.
-Added shortcut 'Sync Control' toggle on the 'Misc' tab to the 'Options-Capture Settings-Sync VCR Buttons' menu option. This menu command is available if the 'Options-Capture Settings-VCR Toolbar' option is checked.
-Added code to restart the Background Builder if it ran out of things to convert and 'Utilities-Background Build' is still checked.
-Added a shortcut button to the Misc tab that toggles the 'Utilities-Backgound Build' menu.
-Added a shortcut button to the Misc tab that toggles the 'Options-Preview Window-Resize Capture Win' menu command.
-Fixed bug that cut the video or saved it to the next record if user manually moved to a different record while the program was still copying the scratch video source (occured when long videos were being saved).
-Fixed bug that caused program to crash if used the Previous button on a new project database and it was the first time adding records.
-The 'Timelimit' checkbox setting is now saved.
-Moved the 'Union' checkbox from the Statistics tab to the front tab.
-Created a new checkbox called 'Istvan,' which is Polish for Flag. Both the Union and Istvan checkboxes have been included in the Schedule Window and reflected in thru the program.
-Made the 'Save Video' message box optional ('Options-Capture Settings-Confirm Video Save' command.
-Fixed bug that didn't return focus to the Name text box after the video record button was pressed.
-Changed the 'Auto-Add' functionality. Now it only adds a new record if the database is at the last record, otherwise the record is saved before moving on to the next record.

Misc Fixes
Added the Talent's Video path field to the 5th tab of the Search Results window.
New 'Options-Output Settings-Email Image Size-Lite Footprint' menu command (and shortcut in the Log Window right-click Email button) that creates smaller email page sizes (for email with limited ISP providers).
New 'Options-Output Settings-B+W Output' menu command that forces email output to be Black and White (gray scale) rather than in color.
The VCR toolbar bugs that caused it to go out of sync with the camera state have been fixed. The 'Options-Capture Settings-Sync VCR Buttons' menu option has also been added to sync the bar to the PC recording state.
Added Istvan and Non-Istvan to the Include combobox. Use this to create schedules restricted to this all-purpose flag.

Version 5.1.2 (1/10/05)
1. Fixed Size Card report printing bug.

Version 4.2.23 (4/16/04)
1. Fixed the email portrait picture stretch issue.
2. Added a DragNDrop button on the Casting/Callback Misc Tab.

Version 4.2.22 (4/3/04)
1. Created code to set the default video scratch and database paths.
2. Created a save button in the Proof Window that saves a quick schedule based on checked picture boxes.
3. Fixed bug that caused GPF if path to last project was invalid.
4. Fixed bug that sometimes deleted the first record picture when using the 'Utility-Delete Blanks' menu item.

Version 4.2.21 (3/16/04)
1. Removed the 15 second video time limit warning from the Casting/Callback windows.
2. Added code to prevent the VCR Prior and Next buttons from moving past the BOF or EOF markers in the Casting/Callback windows, add error when moving to 'Prior' from a final record in 'Add' mode.
3. Fixed a bug that prevented the database name from appearing on the text reports.
4. Fixed bug in portrait first picture x-axis.
5. Increased the text in the Email logs to either 16 or 24 point (based on Portrait or Landscape mode).
6. Modified the CD Build window to pad all htm, video, wav and mpg files with leading zeros (for sorting purposes).
7. Fixed bug that prevented an export into an existing database.

Version 4.2.20 (12/18/03)
1. Added a Checkin/Import report.

Version 4.2.19 (12/10/03)
1. Added schedule import for LA Casting txt format as well as a generic csv import.
2. Fixed bug in two picture CD builds encountered when no second picture existed.

Version 4.2.18 (12/6/03) LA

Casting/Callback
1. Fixed the bug that created short video saves when using the Quick-Click with capture time limits.
2. Changed the capture time limit warning to fire when the textbox loses focus rather than on the change event.
3. Added a warning message that appears if a video of less than 15 seconds is saved (incase it is a capture error).
4. Fixed the Play button state to reflect the existence of an associated video.

Other
1. Fixed the Size Cards report width error.
2. Added code to the Blank Size Card report to find the appropriate tables.

Version 4.2.17 (11/26/03)

Casting/Callback Windows
1. Copied the Camera Refresh button to each tab of the Casting & Callback windows.
2. Created a ditto shortcut that lets you copy the last saved record's data (F11).
3. Fixed bug with the Next/Previous Casting/Callback buttons that lost the pointer to the associated videos.
4. Changed code to allow the Next/Previous buttons to remain visible when QuickClick is enabled.
5. Fixed bug that did not reset the Talent ID number when a new folder was created.

Search & Results Windows
1. Added tabs with statistical/contact fields for selection.
1. Added tabs containing the statistical/contact data added to the Checkin window (See below).
2. Fixed bug that failed to show the hour glass when processing.
3. Added code that disabled the buttons while processing, except for the 'Cancel' button.
4. Added code to export the Talent Statistics fields.

Build Window
1. Added code to create MP3 audio output with associated web pages.
2. Added code to create WAV audio output.
3. Added Role & Other to output options.
4. Added a '2Picture' option to the 'Photo CD' output option.
5. Added code to insert a picture and continue processing when a conversion error occurs.

Proofs
1. Added a Redo Print button that lets you print from a specific page number.
2. Added code that now includes the Agent, Role and Other fields in Email output.
3. Changed the Polaroid output dimensions to remove the stretching.
4. Added right-click options to the 'Print' button to select the output format (Log or Sizecard). This is tied to 'Option-Output' settings.
5. Added a Size Card output that prints three size cards per page from the Proof window selections.
6. Added code to display 'copies' box in the Print Dialog so multiple copies can be printed.
7. Fixed but that put the first Email page in a folder and the rest on the desktop.

Checkin
1. Added three new tabs with Statistics, Contact & Other information fields (New table added to the database as a result). This data accommodates the input of Size Card information.

Other
1. Fixed the 'Utility-Delete Blanks' function.
2. Created Size Card and Blank Size Card Data Reports.
4. Created a 'Printer Margins' menu item that loads a new form for margin input (affecting the Data Reports).
5. Updated all output to automatically update the Copyright year in reports.
6. Added code to the 'Utilities-Merge' routines to include the new Statistics fields.

Ver 4.1.22 (5/1/03)

Casting & Callback Window
1. Added code to capture video and still images from DV cameras via firewire.
2. Added audio source test when using DV and a warning to set audio to 'None' (important for ASF conversions in Web Tool).
3. Added code to resize the capture window and have it retain the change during the casting.
4. Added VCR floating toolbar under capture window, which is activated if VCR capabilities detected (both VCR and Camera). Also see 'Options-Capture Settings-Show VCR' menu command.
5. Added a button to load the VCR toolbar manually (from the Misc tab).
6. Added 'VCR/DV Link' checkbox next to the 'Ctrl Quick-click' checkbox. If checked (when in Quick-Click mode and the camera VCR button is available), the 'Ctrl' key fires both the camera record and CA record buttons ON/OFF.
8. Added code to the capture window that writes changes to the selected drivers to the ini file.
9. Added auto-focus to the name textbox even when set to 'Quick-Key' or two picture mode.
10. Moved the Auto-Add checkbox from the 'Misc' tab to the 'Still' tab.
11. Added preview Tap Source choices to the Options menu and 'Misc' preview mode buttons (also see 'Options-Video Preview-Tap' menu commands).
12. Added code to recall the still picture stretch settings from the 'Still' tab.
13. Added code to turn the 'Esc' key into a still picture button shortcut.
14. Added uvMeter function to Preview window. Button to show/hide meters in the Misc Tab.
15. Added Refresh button on 'Misc' tab to reconnect the Capture devices (in the event the camera shuts off).
16. Added Prior and Next buttons, at the top of the Casting window that are used to Save and then move to the prior/next record.

Web Tool
1. Added 'Build Index.htm' checkbox, which causes an index.htm file to be created.
2. Added 'Start FTP' checkbox, which asks for a default ftp string (once) and then launches an FTP connection at the end of the build.
3. Added ASF file conversion output to the build process (with a properties page capability).
4. Modified the htm pages to work on both PC's and Mac's (also included a link for stand-alone streaming).
5. Updated the WebTool help button with notes on the new features and additional details.

Misc.
1. Added Male/Female sort options and a 'Move All' button to the Schedule/Select forms.
2. Fixed bug in Search Export that didn't assign the log numbers to the new db.
3. Fixed two picture portrait picture proof printing bug.
4. Added a warning message that appears if nothing was selected for printing from a proof.
5. Added 'Options-Capture Settings-Show VCR Buttons' menu to activate VCR button state.
6. Added 'Options-Video Preview-Tap' menu to control the capture window stream tap.
7. Email output from the Proof window now creates a project folder on the desktop and then creates the email jpg images within the folder.
8. Added code and system drivers for new Sentinel keys (including USB).
9. Added uvMeters to the Video Viewer.
10. Added counter fields next to the Source and Destination listboxes, in the Scheduling Window, that show the number selected or remaining.
11. Added keyboard arrow key functionality so that focus can move to next or prior record with the click of the arrow keys.

Ver 3.2.20 (1/12/03)

Mastering CD's
1. Corrected the bug that said the folder already existed (even if it didn't).

Casting & Callback Window
2. Reactivated the Alt-S (save) and Alt-K (click) hot keys.
3. After a picture click the focus now returns to the Firstname textbox.

Misc.
4. Created a visual indicator in the toolbar folder picture that reflects the picture mode (single or double).

Ver 3.2.19 (12/24/02)

Search & Export Window
1. Fixed bug that left Export checkmark in specific records even after they were exported. Now they are reset after export. Also any export checkmark to an individual record will clear the 'ExportAll' checkmark. Finally, the tape number is set to 1 for all exported data so that it shows as data from a single casting, etc.

Mastering CD's
2. Fixed bug that required the Video folder to exist even when creating a PhotoCD.
3. Added a warning message about size accuracy when over-writing CD folders.
4. Added two jpgs to Template folder and code to rotate images in CD build results if Portrait pictures are the default setting.
5. Added an error trap to prevent the deletion of the Video data folder with the DeleteCd utility function.

Proof Window
6. Added First (<<) and Last (>>) VCR style buttons to the Proof windows.

Schedule/Select Window
7. Made the Schedule/Select windows wider to display more text.
8. Added first name to the Name sort option.
9. Added a specific message for corrupt db error in Select window sequence saving.

Casting & Callback Window
10. Added two small camera still click buttons in the outside floating frame that save the image to either head or body box (and fire the associated radio buttons). They also have Alt-1 and Alt-2 hot key associations.
11. Fixed recording slider elapsed time to reset to 0 when recording limit is changed.
12. Disabling the recording limit will reset the slider increment value to 60 seconds for better visual perspective.
13. Changed visible state of the picture windows when two-picture mode is enabled so that the first picture box is always visible when a record is opened or saved.
14. Changed the Auto-Click feature in the Casting/Callback window to the Ctrl key so that the spacebar could be used in text input without firing the event.
15. Removed the code, which automatically added a new record when the window opened and 'AutoAdd' was enabled because of form focus issues. Now the first record must be manually added and then the 'AutoAdd' function works as before.
16. Added an option 'Video Preview Mode-Resize Enabled' that causes the preview display to resize to fit the Preview Window if it is dragged to different sizes.
17. On small screen PC's the Video display window may explode to a size greater than the viewable area for unknown reasons. Simply clicking on the blue window title bar will cause it to retract to proper 320x240 size.

Misc.
18. Changed the Frame caption from 'Role' to 'Type' in the various associated forms.
19. Added date and Project (database) name to the top of the tapelog reports.
20. Created a Utility report for deleting blank records (i.e. no name, agent, role, other or picture data).
21. Added two similar reports (a Casting by Name and a Talent by Name).
22. Added a resort to the Checkin window radio buttons (Callback radio button resorts the data into Name order).

Ver 3.2.18 (6/3/2002)-------------------------------------------------------------------

14. Added a 'Space' checkbox to Build CD window so that the program calculates the approximate disk space required for the build and displays this information before continuing.

Ver 3.2.16 (5/28/2002)
1. Changed toolbar buttons.
2. Fixed bug that used version 14 Union and Sex boolean values.
3. Fixed bug in CD Mastering window that ignored sequence, callback and select queries.
4. Added an option to master all talent in the CD Master window.
5. Added total talent count, build date and plug to mastered CD left frame.
6. Fixed bug in Schedule/Select window sequence dropbox that did not show available Select values used.
7. Added 'Reload' and 'Delete' buttons to the Schedule/Select window that reloads or deletes a sequence.

Ver 3.2.15 (5/27/2002)
1. Upgraded to production level MM13 tool.
2. Upgraded to Image control version 13 tool.
3. Added code that turns the Casting/Callback picture box mouse pointer to an hourglass and disabled the still capture while capturing video.
4. Added code that auto-sizes the 'Capture' window to match the input source.
5. Added a 'Capture Driver' menu link to the right-click event of the 'Configure' button in the 'Change Capture Device' window.
6. Cosmetically changed the Viewer slider to show positive rather than negative values.
7. Changed the CD Builder Codec search to include Windows, System, System32 and TEMP.
8. In 'Options-Capture Settings' added a sub-menu for 'Master Stream' selection (i.e. sync to sound to video, video to sound or neither). This is useful when the video and sound come from two sources rather than from the same capture card.
9. Changed 'Options-Video Preview Mode' to affect the content of the Video Preview during Castings/Callbacks (Video & Sound, Video, or Sound). Note that this is not the Video Viewer Tool.
10. Fixed bug in the Casting/Callback window that ignored the 'Options-Capture Settings-Capture Timestamps' setting.
11. Changed radio buttons representing Female and Union to checkboxes (Check in, Casting/Callback, Search, and Results windows).
12. Created a background 'reel' image to fit a 1280x1024 screen.
13. In Casting/Callback added a 'right-click' to a new button in the 'Preview Mode' frame of the 'Misc' tab (shortcut to the 'Options-Video Preview Mode' menu. Note that this is not the Video Viewer Tool.
14. In Casting/Callback added a 'right-click' to the speaker images that affect the 'Main Capture Stream' selection (shortcut to the Options-Capture Settings-Master Stream' menu).

1. Added a 'File' menu option to the Video Viewer so that the user may open any video (useful when loading the Viewer from the Utility menu.

3. Rewrote the Driver options to recall settings, ignore settings, or use first available (modified Casting/Callback window to take these changes into effect).
